Community College of Philadelphia Expansion

CCP gets a new look for the 2011/2012 school year!  The campus is well underway with a campus expansion project on its main campus in Center City at 17th and Spring Garden.  Set to open for the Fall Semester, the new building and renovations of existing buildings will improve campus curb appeal dramatically and consolidate programs, allowing for more efficient operation throughout various departments and an enhanced contemporary look that reflects the progressive future of CCP.

The renovated first floor of the Bonnell Building features offices for admissions, the registrar, the bursar, and financial aid, and a number of other functions.  The renovation also includes new spaces for the theater program, and a redesigned Integrated Business Services Center, which will combine current printing, duplicating, mail services, and central supplies spaces into one efficient operation.

The construction of the new pavilion is part of a three-phase $56M expansion project that will modernize the college's preexisting Bonnell, West and Mint buildings to accommodate the institutions steady growing student body.  The new 45,000 square-foot building will house CCP's Hospitality and Culinary Arts programs, and campus food services and a dining venue.  Sustainable features include green roofs, and energy and daylight modeling.

Waterview Grande

The Waterview Grande conversion project in Northern Liberties on North Delaware Ave received the nod from the commission for its POD on tuesday.  Developed by Core Realty, the 192 unit planned apartment conversion of two 80 year-old concrete cold storage facilities is well on its way.  Plans call for completely stripping down the existing eight-story buildings at Brown Street and North Delaware Avenue.  About 47,670 square feet of retail and commercial space will mix with a cafe with outdoor seating and about 200 parking spaces.

2061 E. Susquehanna

G8 Development is making beautiful progress on its modern renovation of 2061 E. Susquehanna in Fishtown.  The renovation is like none other in Philadelphia.  Designers totally went against traditional row-home protocol producing a unique layout that any prospective homeowner would be itching to get their hands on.  With a sturdy concrete base and energy saving spray-foam insulation the home is well lit and fit for the most social of young professionals and a great place to raise a family!

The home opens up to a spacious gallery with views to the living, dining, kitchen area located below in the basement finished with a 1/2 bath.  The first floor contains a rear master suite and bath, second floor- two spacious bedrooms and central library and bath, and stairway leading to a beautiful roof deck spanning the entire length of the house.  If this isn't a premium town home renovation, then I don't know what is!

New Bakers Square Shopping Center Revives Huntington Park West Neighborhood

Ground Broke a few weeks ago on the 30-acre, 220,000 square-foot "community shopping Center" to be anchored by a Brown's ShopRite supermarket.  The complex is expected to bring needed jobs, a boost to the local economy and a long overdue access to fresh produce to local residence.  The Bakers Square ShopRite will include an American Heritage Credit Union, a medical clinic and social services office.  The 460,000 square-foot Tasty Baking Production Factory building will be preserved, and redeveloped with retail, educational and institutional offices, and possibly a parking structure to hold about 350 cars.

Bakers Square will actively seek small mom-and-pop businesses and junior-box retailers and restaurants meant to serve the 167,000 people who live within two miles of the site.  The project will bring about 350 construction jobs, 700 permanent ones, once opened.  The store will also bring aisles of fresh fruit and vegetables, seafood, meat and extensive international grocery offerings.

The Modules

"The Modules" apartment complex is a sleek new addition to the lower North Philadelphia landscape, setting the bar high for new innovative multifamily dwellings west of Broad Street.  Following architectural styles seen in Northern Liberties and the new dormitories at Penn and Temple, the Modules is definitely adding to a wave of contemporary architecture in Philadelphia.  Located at 1417 N 15th street, developers Carlisle Street Partners ambitiously aimed to design the first green building in the Temple University area sporting a roof deck and bicycle garage.  The building is marketed to Temple University students as a means of off campus housing.

McGonigle Pearson Hall Update

We posted earlier that as part of  Temple University's expansion plans, a renovation of McGonigle Pearson Hall was needed to house Division 1 Basketball practice facilities, intramural and recreational sports facilities, exercise/yoga rooms, contemporary weight/workout rooms, classrooms, retail at street level, offices and other programatic areas.  The activities now located in the Student Pavilion will be relocated to the new complex.  The renovation and additional 140,000 SF to the existing 225,000 SF will cost the university over $48 million.  As of now, foundation construction has been completed and steel is being erected.
